Booking terms

Payment, cancellation, conditions, health declarations and liability.

These terms apply to all sessions, courses and camps booked with Pacific Coast Surf Camp ("we", "us"). Making a booking means you accept them. Last updated: 1 August 2026.

1. Bookings

A booking is confirmed only when we reply to say so. Single sessions require no deposit; weekend camps require 30% to hold the place, with the balance due before arrival.

2. Cancellation by you

  • More than 48 hours before the session: full refund, or move it free of charge.
  • Within 48 hours: 50% charge, or move it free of charge to any date within six months.
  • No-show without contact: no refund.
  • Weekend camps: 30 days notice for a full refund; inside 30 days the deposit is retained.

3. Cancellation by us

We will cancel or move a session if the surf, wind, water quality or weather make it unsuitable, or if a coach is unwell and we cannot cover safely. In every such case you get a full refund or a free reschedule, whichever you prefer.

This is a judgement we make in your interest and we make it often. We will not run a session in wrong conditions simply because it is paid for.

4. Health and fitness

Surfing is a physical activity in an unpredictable environment. You must be able to swim approximately 25 metres and be comfortable in water above your head.

You must tell us before the session about any medical condition, injury, medication or disability that could affect your safety in the water — including asthma, epilepsy, heart conditions, recent surgery and pregnancy. We keep this confidential and use it only to run the session safely. We may decline participation on safety grounds, in which case you get a full refund.

5. Participants under 18

Under-18s need a parent or guardian to complete the health declaration and consent form. Under-16s must be dropped off and collected by a responsible adult. We do not release a child to anyone not named on the form.

6. Equipment

Boards, wetsuits and boots are included and remain our property. Normal wear is expected and never charged for. Loss or damage through misuse or negligence may be charged at repair or replacement cost, and we will always show you the invoice.

7. Your responsibilities

  • Arrive on time. Sessions start with a safety briefing and we cannot admit anyone who misses it.
  • Follow coach instructions in and out of the water. This is a safety matter, not a preference.
  • Do not surf under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We will refuse participation with no refund.
  • Respect the beach and the town: park considerately, keep noise down early, take rubbish with you.

8. Insurance and liability

We carry full public liability insurance and all coaches hold current lifesaving and first-aid certification. We are liable for loss or injury caused by our negligence, up to the limits of that policy.

We are not liable for injury arising from an undisclosed medical condition, from failure to follow instructions, or from the inherent risks of surfing in the ocean. We recommend you hold personal travel or accident insurance. We are not responsible for personal belongings left on the beach or in the car park.

9. Photography

Coaching video is taken as part of the session and shared with you. We ask separately before using any image publicly, and declining changes nothing about your booking.

10. Website content

Text, images and design on this site are our copyright. Journal articles are general guidance, not personal instruction. Conditions in the ocean vary constantly and nothing here replaces judgement on the day.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. We would much rather resolve any dispute by talking to you first.
